The ECSA registration process is easier and not as complicated as you may think.

The mentor does more than just sign off reports

The mentor is the most important role player in the ECSA training program. They:
  • Structure and plan your professional development with attainable goals.
  • Provide guidance when you are unsure what to do.
  • Provide constructive feedback when you need a second opinion
  • Give moral support when you become demotivated.

Avoid…..

Appointing the incorrect mentor as this will hurt you

A mentor who is not committed to helping you become ECSA registered can prolong the training process. Appointing the wrong mentor can:
  • Misguide you which can cause frustration and confusion.
  • Cause your application to fail if your work is not graded in accordance with the “New Registration System”.
  • Prevent you from growing if they do not provide you with constructive feedback.
  • Cause you to set unrealistic goals.

So…..

This is how you know if you have the correct mentor

Everything comes down to dedication and willingness to help you become ECSA registered. The best mentor:
  • Makes time to provide guidance when you need help.
  • Shows you how to align your work experience with ECSA requirements.
  • Reviews your reports and provides constructive feedback
  • Makes a recommendation and allows you to decide what is the best choice to make.
  • Schedules progress meetings at least every 4 months.
  • Motivates you when the training becomes discouraging and you feel like giving up.

The next step is to search for…..

Places where you can find a good mentor

Start by looking at the personality of every engineer you encounter who is ECSA registered.

They may be friends, colleagues or even clients.

Here’s what to do next

If you have read up to this point of my article, it means you are serious in becoming ECSA registered and you really need our help with mentorship.

There is however a catch

First, we’re unable to provide mentorship to anybody. There are some qualifications you’ll need to meet – the “biggest” being that you are 150% committed to becoming ECSA registered and you are not going to quit once we get started. We’re a small company (by design) and can only offer mentorship to a handful of candidates.

Are you dedicated and willing to invest time and money into your own professional development

Setup an appointment with one of our consultants who will do an assessment and kick start your ECSA registration journey.
